🍋 What is Silken Tofu “Yogurt”?
If you love creamy yogurt and easy recipes, you’re going to love silken tofu yogurt! This homemade vegan yogurt skips the culturing process by blending silken tofu, lemon juice, and powdered sugar in a blender or food processor. No fussy probiotic capsules, no waiting. It’s SO soooo decadent and yummy layered in a cute jar with fresh fruit, chia jam, and granola!
Is tofu yogurt real yogurt?
Yogurt, by definition, is made by culturing milk (dairy-based or plant-based) with live bacterial cultures. So, this uncultured tofu yogurt is not actually yogurt as it hasn’t gone through the traditional culturing process. The classic tangy flavor comes from lemon juice instead of fermentation with probiotic capsules.
I’ve been making it for years and always have a pot tucked in the fridge- perfect for smoothies, parfaits, and nomming as a high-protein snack. I can’t wait for you to try it; it may just earn a permanent spot in your fridge too!
🔖 Simple Ingredients
You’ll find the complete ingredient list with measurements and instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. Here’s a snapshot of everything you’ll need.
Silken tofu- This soft tofu usually comes in a shelf-stable box. Choose the one labeled “extra firm” so your homemade yogurt will be creamy and not runny.
Lemon juice- An essential ingredient for achieving a classic tangy yogurt flavor. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice and not bottled lemon juice, which will taste sadly artificial.
Powdered sugar- A little sweetener balances the bland tofu and tangy lemon. Sift your sugar first to avoid little lumps. Date sugar is a healthy option if you want to keep this recipe fruit-sweetened.

❓Frequently Asked Questions
Does silken tofu need to be pressed?
Nope! Silken tofu comes in a shelf-stable box. Simply open the box and slide the fresh tofu into a blender or food processor.
Can I use other sweeteners?
Powdered sugar is your best option here. It quickly dissolves, leaving no gritty texture. Another option is date sugar if you want to keep this recipe refined sugar-free. I don’t recommend using liquid sweeteners, which will make your dairy-free tofu yogurt runny.
Will this tofu have the same health benefits as cultured versions?
In short, no. It lacks probiotics, which are the beneficial live bacteria that promote gut health. However, it is a good source of protein.
